When Glen Mazzara‘s departure from The Walking Dead was announced in December, we were left with one question: Is this show bleeding showrunners as quickly as it’s shed its many killed-off characters? Halfway into the production of its second season AMC’s zombie splatterfest famously ditched its first showrunner, and pilot director, Frank Darabont. Well, AMC confirms that the show now has a new executive producer in the captain’s chair: Scott M. Gimple.

Gimple’s been a producer or supervising producer on The Walking Dead since the start of its second season and has written five episodes, including the barnstorming bloodbath “Pretty Much Dead Already” that saw the departure of little zombie Sophia from the show. His other credits include stints as executive story editor on FlashForward and as co-producer on the short-lived Chase. Gimple also wrote the screenplay for the flame-throwing Nic Cage comic book sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
Excited about the choice of Gimple?
