10. Ned Stark vs. Jaime Lannister
Taking place way back in the first season of the show, Jaime approaches Ned and questions him on the whereabouts of his brother, Tyrion. Ned reveals that his men took Tyrion under his orders to cover for his wife Catelyn. She had arrested Tyrion because of a dagger she found in his possession that linked him to the attempted murder of her son, Bran. Nevertheless, Ned and Jaime draw their swords and settle matters in a way they both understand.
9. Jaime Lannister vs. Brienne of Tarth
After the the murder of King Renly, Brienne of Tarth offers her services to Catelyn Stark who asks her to deliver Jaime to his father Tywin. Catelyn does this in the hopes that Tywin will repay the debt, and safely return her daughters to her. During the journey, Jaime feigns exhaustion and collapses on a bridge. Brienne lowers her guard, and Jaime seizes the opportunity to grab her extra sword and they engage!
8. Bronn vs. Ser Vardis Egan
Tyrion Lannister is taken prisoner by Catelyn Stark for the attempted murder of her son Bran. He demands a trial by combat in the Eyrie, and names his brother Jaime as his champion. However, the trial must take place that day so a sellsword by the name of Bronn steps up to defend him and fights the captain of the kingsguard, Ser Vardis Egan.
7. The Hound vs. Beric Dondarrion
In another trial by combat, the Hound is taken prisoner by the Brotherhood Without Banners, and fights Beric Dondarrion to clear his name. However, the Hound has an immense fear of fire because his brother scorched his face when he was younger. This becomes somewhat of a problem for him as Beric ignites his sword in flames and charges at him.
6. Brienne of Tarth vs. The Hound
After delivering Jaime back to King’s Landing, Brienne seeks out Arya and Sansa Stark because she swore an oath to their mother, Catelyn. Upon finding Arya with the Hound, Brienne begs her to come with her instead. However, Arya sees the Valyrian sword given to her by Jaime, and incorrectly suspects that Brienne is working for the Lannisters. The Hound, who plans to give Arya to her aunt Lysa in the Eyrie for a ransom, isn’t too interested in giving her away to some stranger…
5. Daario Naharis vs. Champion of Meereen
Instead of needlessly spilling the blood of thousands of her soldiers, Daenerys Targaryen sends Daario Naharis as her lone champion to battle the Champion of Meereen. Daario readies but a single knife as the Champion furiously charges at him and slays him effortlessly.
4. Khal Drogo vs. Mago
Mago, unhappy with that fact that Daenerys won’t let him rape captured women, goes to Khal Drogo to settle the matter. However, Khal Drogo is amused that his wife is growing fiercer by the day and sides with her. Outraged by the Khal’s decision, Mago challenges him to a fight only to have his tongue literally ripped from his throat.
3. Jon Snow vs. White Walker
During the battle of Hardhome, Jon Snow clashes with a seemingly unstoppable White Walker. Up until this point, the only character shown to kill a White Walker was Sam Tarly who managed to do so with a piece of dragonglass. As such, White Walkers were thought to be invincible. With no other options but to fight, Jon Snow takes the sword given to him from the previous Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, and is shocked to find what it can do to a White Walker.
2. Oberyn Martell vs. The Mountain
Hellbent on revenge for the murder of his sister Elia Martell and her children, Oberyn volunteers to fight the Mountain on behalf of Tyrion in a trial of combat. The Red Viper successfully lands multiple strikes on his opponent, but isn’t satisfied without the Mountain’s confession of rape and murder. Unfortunately, the arrogance of Oberyn eventually gets the better of him, and the battle does not end well for The Red Viper.
1. Young Ned Stark vs. Ser Arthur Dayne
Seen in a flash back by Bran and the Three Eye Raven, a young Ned Stark looks for his sister Lyanna and arrives at the Tower of Joy with a group of companions. He finds Ser Arthur Dayne, the greatest swordsman of his time, guarding the tower with an ally of his own. With dual-wielding sword action, Ser Athur Dayne holds his own on a four on one battle until only he and Ned are left!
