Fans of The CW‘s long running paranormal drama,The Vampire Diaries were devastated when actress Nina Dobrev decided to exit the show after six seasons. The actress who played Elena Gilbert during the series decided that she wanted to take a break to pursue other opportunities. After Elena was turned into a vampire during the third season, she had some trouble adjusting to life on the dark side. Though she tried to keep her life from falling apart, Elena eventually decided to sacrificed herself with a very long sleep spell in order to save her BFF Bonnie. However, it may be time for Ms. Gilbert to arise.
Fans were delighted when Dobrev’s voice made a cameo appearance during the season 7 finale. She actually recorded her voice so that it could be included in a montage of old clips. During an interview with TV Line TVD Executive Producer, Julie Plec stated, “I reached out and said, ‘We can either cobble it together from a bunch of episodes, or you can come in and see everybody and do ADR.’ She chose to do it in person, which was great, because it was a nice little personal Nina visit.”
So will be see and not just hearing Dobrev during season 8? Plec told TV Line that she plans to stick with her original plan of bringing Dobrev back for the series finale. She said, “It’s what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it’s what I’ve got in my head.” In March, Dobrev’s ex-beau and former co-star Ian Somerhalder stated that TVD would end after the eighth season. Though nothing has been officially confirmed, this certainly adds fuel to the fire that Elena will be resurrected during the coming season.
