Inside Amy Schumer has been having a rough moment. The Comedy Central show recently underwent some scrutiny when writer Kurt Metzger made some sarcastic comments about rape accusations against fellow comedian Aaron Glaser. Now it looks like the show might be done for good.
It all started when a woman posted a message accusing Glaser of “raping women in the comedy community for years” on a private Facebook group for female comedians. Glaser has since been permanently banned from the Upright Citizens Brigade after multiple women came forward, but that didn’t stop Metzger from slamming the situation for “lack of proof” in a lengthy and not-so-nice Facebook post. In the post, he says Glaser is “So f—ing dangerous that we can’t go to the police to report his many rapes! That would just be tooooo rapey, and the women are too brave for that.” Gross. Literally gross.
Needless to say, Amy Schumer, an avid feminist and vocal supporter of women’s rights, was appalled. She tweeted about how disgusted she was with her friend’s actions.

That wasn’t enough for Twitter, though, who kept asking the comedian about the writer, as if she shared those horrendous opinions. It appeared for a second that Schumer had (rightly) given Metzger the boot. She tweeted saying that he wasn’t actually a writer on the show.

But that wasn’t the case at all. Schumer has confirmed that no single person got fired over the incident. The truth is that Inside Amy Schumer is done for good.

The blonde beauty then retweeted a fan’s comment to confirm, once again, that she’s basically ripped our hearts into a million little pieces.
You're the best, and we'll miss your show. And Twitter sucks sometimes.

The show’s ending is a major shock considering its success. The series was renewed by Comedy Central for a fifth season in January and we were so, so excited.
Despite the events that happened, controversy may not be at the root of the show’s end. The show had been renewed, and if Amy wanted to continue with the series, simply firing Metzger would have been appropriate. Schumer might have already been thinking about ending the show and this drama might have been the tipping point. It’s no secret that Schumer has transformed from a relatively unknown comic into a mega star since the show’s first season. She’s starred in major films like Trainwreck and started hanging around A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence. It’s possible that she just wanted to focus on acting in movies rather than spending so much energy on the small screen.
Hopefully, we’ll hear official news about Inside Amy Schumer soon. We’re still secretly hoping this is a major misunderstanding — and if it’s not, maybe we’ll get to see Amy in bigger and better things.
UPDATE 3:39 PM:
Amy Schumer has confirmed that her show has not been cancelled. Due to her increasingly busy schedule, the show is on an indefinite hiatus as she focuses her efforts on writing and touring. She plans to resume the show with season five but not in the foreseeable future.
