Here at Hollywood.com, we do a lot of complaining about the remakes, reboots, and endless sequels that we report on all day long. “If only the studios would support a film with an original concept!” we cry, raising our fists to the heavens. “Will no brave director come and save us from this torment?”
Well, This Must Be The Place is certainly original. It’s just not quite what we had in mind. Paolo Sorrentino’s first English-language film tells the story of an aging rock star (Sean Penn, by way of Robert Smith) who continues his father’s hunt for the Nazi who imprisoned him in Auschwitz.
The film premiered at Cannes earlier this year with mixed reviews. But we can’t help but think that this might be the best indie roadtrip holocaust comedy since Everything Is Illuminated.
This Must Be The Place is due out later this year.
