Lionsgate is retracting the trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s epic film ‘Megalopolis’ after the trailer featured fabricated quotes from well-known film critics. Released on Wednesday morning, the trailer aimed to position Coppola’s latest work as a timeless masterpiece. It drew comparisons to his legendary films like ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Apocalypse Now’.
The trailer included quotes from critics about other Coppola films, misleadingly attributed to their reviews of ‘Megalopolis’. Lionsgate issued a formal apology following the trailer’s release.
“Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for ‘Megalopolis’, a Lionsgate spokesperson said in a statement. “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry.”
