Katherine Heigl has agreed to star in the feature-film adaptation of Carolyn Jessop’s best-selling memoir Escape.
Heigl will also produce the film, Variety reports.
Jessop’s book is an account of her upbringing and escape from polygamist sect, the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints.
At 18, Jessop married a man 32 years her senior. At 35, she fled and subsequently sued for custody of her eight children. Ultimately, she became the first woman ever granted full custody of her children in a contested suit involving the Fundamentalist Church.
Heigl is currently shooting the Robert Luketic-directed comedy The Ugly Truth with Gerard Butler.
According to Variety, her producing projects include comedy Alpha Moms and the action comedy Drawn Together.
