After the success of Maleficent, Cinderella and most recently The Jungle Book, Disney is on a roll with their live action films. Walt Disney Pictures just confirmed that The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau will be fast-tracking a live-action version of the Disney classic, The Lion King. Though no release date has been set as of yet, we do know that the film will include the original classic songs that we all grew up with.

Considering the fact that there are actually no humans in The Lion King, which took home almost a billion dollars in the box office when it was released in theaters back in 1994, it’s kind of difficult to call the 21st-century version a live-action film. Like The Jungle Book, Favreau will be tasked with creating an entire world full of CGI animals. Since this is such a lengthy process, we don’t believe we’ll be seeing Simba, Timone and Pumbaa in theaters before 2019.  Until then, we can look forward to seeing Emma Watson slay as Belle in the live-action version of Beauty and The Beast which is due to hit theaters March 17, 2017.
