Disney and Pixar Confirm Coco 2: Release Date, Plot and More!

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced on Thursday that Pixar Animation Studios is officially developing Coco 2 following the success of the first film.

In a shareholder meeting, the CEO said:

“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure.”

Released in 2017, Coco was a critical and commercial hit, earning over $800 million worldwide and winning Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (Remember Me). The film follows 12-year-old Miguel, who defies his family’s music ban and embarks on a journey to the Land of the Dead on Día de Los Muertos.

Coco 2: Release Date, Plot & More

The highly anticipated sequel will bring back the creative team behind the original, including directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina. Coco 2 will continue the story of Miguel, the musically gifted boy who ventured into the Land of the Dead to uncover his family’s past. While plot details remain under wraps, the sequel is expected to further explore themes of family, tradition, and the power of music. The film is reportedly set for a theatrical release in 2029.
