As much as I want this to happen, my underlying cynicism is saying no. Ben Stiller is attached to star in an adaptation of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty despite the fact that pretty much every comic actor has attached himself to the project since the short story was first published. In 1939. Hollywood managed to make a well-regarded adaptation in 1947, but I’m still pretty sure that was fake too.
Anyway, Stiller is attached and, like puppy love, things seem PERFECT. But we’ll see how well this is going in a few months. Who knows what will eventually bring it down. Distributor 20th Century Fox still doesn’t have a director (since Gore Verbinski dropped out) though the current Steve Conrad-penned script appears to be better than the one it originally had. Still, after passing through so many hands it may begin to look like Heidi Montag.
I’d love to see this redo happen, I really would. But I’ll believe it when I see it.
