Roger Ebert on ‘Sex and the City 2’

roger ebertRoger Ebert’s review of ‘Sex and the City 2″ is, in large part, fair. I can say this because I’m someone who kept buying box sets of the entire series when my DVDs got so scratched the player would only spit them back out at me instead of playing an episode. Generally speaking, ‘SATC2’ wasn’t particularly enjoyable, and his review is right to touch upon that. However, this is unnecessary:

“Some of these people make my skin crawl.”

The series and both movies weren’t designed for men. (A hint of this should be how the story lines have the women almost always winning their spousal arguments or coming out on top in any scenario where there’s a man.) Men who watch the franchise aren’t going to like it any more than they would enjoy wearing a pair of fishnet stockings! It’s just obvious! 2+2=4! “Mom” is a palindrome! ‘Sex and the City’ is for WOMEN! It’s a given. Why is he surprised he didn’t like it? I could write ‘Rocky’ makes my skin crawl, but I don’t bother because I know it doesn’t try to cater to my interests. In other words, Ebert’s allowed to express his opinion about ‘SATC 2,’ and he’s allowed not to like it. But he’s not allowed to make the people who do like it feel bad or unsophisticated.
