On paper, Tom Cruise has a lot to offer a wife: boyish good looks, wealth, a sense of humor (sometimes) about himself.
So why is the 49-year-old facing his third divorce already as soon-to-be-ex-wife Katie Holmes filed divorce papers this week?
Are there clues that his ex-wives can leave us?
Tom married actress Mimi Rogers in the 80s but divorced in 1990. She later cited their lack of intimacy as a big dealbreaker.
She said, “He was seriously thinking of becoming a monk. He thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument, but my instrument needed tuning, and we had to split.”
Nicole Kidman, who split with Tom after 10 years of marriage in 2001, later talked about what it felt like living in Tom’s shadow.
She told Glamour magazine, “I felt I became a star only by association. I didn’t think [my early movies] were very good, which is why I would always cower in the background.’ ‘I thought, I don’t deserve to be here. We would go to the Oscars and I would think, I’m here to support him. ‘I felt it was my job to put on a beautiful dress and to be seen and not heard.'”
