Tom Hanks’ son and of course, an actor who’s done enough that we shouldn’t have to refer to him that way, Colin Hanks, is the latest addition to the Dexter roster. As of now, we’re not sure what sort of a character he’ll be, but we do know that he’s part of a story arch during the show’s sixth season. Of course, being that Hanks is so darn likable, I doubt I’m the only one who wants him to be a bit of a baddie or at least a bit of an annoyance.
According to TV Line “it’s unlikely” that he’ll be one of the three already announced new characters: a young Latina woman (nope), the eerily Doakes-like “African-American homicide detective” from Chicago “who doesn’t play well with others” (nope), and 30-something lab intern who’s friends with Masuka and is “attractive in his own way.” Maybe they know something we don’t, but I’m preparing myself to be disappointed in case Hanks ends up being nothing more than the lab intern. Then again, if you know anything about Dexter, a bad guy and a simple lab intern could certainly be one in the same.
But to be clear, it’s all speculation at this point. All we really have to go on is what Showtime president, David Nevins said: “It is not [about] one big bad. There’s one interesting story that will move through the season, and it will be cast very interestingly, but it’s not exactly that one person.” So basically, some stuff will go down, but it probably won’t happen the way you think it will, with the people you think it will and you’ll probably be totally surprised. Well, good; that’s what Dexter is supposed to be like. And hey, at least that’s better than the psuedo-trailer Showtime posted yesterday. So there’s that.
