Beyoncé is certainly flying high these days. ( Seriously though, when is she not?!) Queen B just celebrated her 35th birthday with a Soul Train inspired celeb filed B-Day party, she’s about to head back to the stage with the second part of her Formation tour, and she also gave us the iconic Lemonade this year.
With our current racial and political climate, especially issues surrounding police brutality and discrimination, Beyoncé has used her platform to be increasingly outspoken on issues concerning the unjust treatment of African Americans in this country. Instead of vowing to be part of the solution, some butt -hurt police officers even suggested that they would not protect the Queen when she performed in their cities (As if she doesn’t have Julius and couldn’t afford to hire her own security. #boybye) Like San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Bey has also been accused of being disingenuous in speaking out because of her wealth and status in society. Luckily, like Kaepernick, Bey doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone, and according to her often collaborator, The-Dream, Bey has ALWAYS been in touch with her roots.
The-Dream who is the genius behind “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” “Flawless,” and “Run the World (Girls)” among others, revealed way back in 2011, that Beyoncé recorded a 20-track Afrobeat album right before her 2011’s album 4. According to The-Dream, the album was inspired by iconic Nigerian Afrobeat artist Fela Kuti. The hitmaker said of the album, “We did a whole Fela album that didn’t go up. It was right before we did 4. We did a whole different sounding thing, about twenty songs. She said she wanted to do something that sounds like Fela. That’s why there’s so much of that sound in the “End of Time.” There’s always multiple albums being made. Most of the time we’re just being creative, period. We’re talking about B, somebody who sings all day long and somebody who writes all day long. There’s probably a hundred records just sitting around.”
If this album sounds anything like the epicness of “End Of Time” mixed with “Formation” then we’re beyond here for it. Here’s to hoping we’ll hear it one day!
