Daniel Craig, our 21st century James Bond, is working on a new mission: he currently stars in the Broadway show, Macbeth. After only 4 preview performances, the show shut down on April 1st due to positive cases among the cast, including Daniel Craig. However, the show is set to resume on April 12, 2022.
Here is everything we know about Daniel Craig in Macbeth.
Daniel Craig and the cast of Macbeth
Daniel Craig plays the titular role and Passing star Ruth Negga stars as Lady Macbeth. While Daniel’s last on-stage performance was a 2016 off-broadway run of Shakespeare’s Othello, this is Ruth’s Broadway debut.

Director Sam Gold shared his excitement with Entertainment Weekly about working with Daniel Craig:
“I find him just extremely human. He’s a great actor for taking the scale of the poetry of Shakespeare and feeling like it could be you up there. He just feels very approachable, real, vulnerable, and also has within him the depth that the second half of the play requires.”
The creative team includes scenic design by Christine Jones, costume design by Suttirat Larlarb, lighting design by Jane Cox, sound design by Mikaal Sulaiman, special effects by Jeremy Chernick, fight direction by David Leong, and new music by Gaelynn Lea.
Daniel Craig talks about Macbeth
Macbeth tells the story of the dangerous outcomes of seeking power. Three witches tell general Macbeth he will be the King of Scotland. With encouragement from his wife, Macbeth goes on a killing spree to gain control. Soon, he realizes the effects of deathly political ambition.
In an interview with Javier Bardem, in collaboration with Variety, Daniel Craig shares his love for the show:
“It’s a play that starts, and it literally powers through to the end. It’s an amazing piece of writing. One of the nicest things to do is sit around with a bunch of actors and a good director talking about good text. I could do that every day of my life.”
When and where does Macbeth with Daniel Craig premiere?
Macbeth will officially open on April 28, 2022, at the Longacre Theatre for 15 weeks.
In a statement with Broadway.com, director Sam Gold says:
“I am beyond thrilled to be participating in this historic season as theater re-emerges, and to be working with two such masterful actors on one of dramatic literature’s most challenging and epic dramas—I can’t wait to get started!”
