Comedian Dennis Miller has acknowledged that NFL players were upset when he was selected to provide color for ABC’s Monday Night Football a year ago. “These guys literally put their life on the line each week,” Miller told TV journalists in Pasadena, “and they want to know that you treat what they do seriously.” He said that it wasn’t until several games into the season when Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan publicly praised him that players began to come around. Miller also revealed something that he says he had kept secret from ABC Sports execs when they hired him: He had previously gone to only one NFL football game — in Pittsburgh, when he was seven.
