Why Your New Year’s Resolution Should Be To Go To The Movies More

Welcome to 2022! Each new year brings new resolutions, new habits, and new opportunities. New resolutions can range from significant changes like starting a workout routine to more minor decisions like waking up an hour earlier each day.

Whatever you decide to do to make 2022 a meaningful year, give yourself the chance to embrace fun. At Hollywood.com, we believe the best way to add some enjoyment to your year is by going to the movies.

Here are 4 reasons why your New Year’s resolution should be to go to the movies more.

#1 Movies are better on the big screen

You can never compete with the aura and essence of a movie theater. The minute you sit in your seat and the lights go down, it’s just you and the world of cinema right in front of you. With modern technology like 3-D, 4-D, surround sound, and crystal clear projections, movie theaters offer audiences an immersive experience.

Watching a new release on-demand or streaming service doesn’t have the same effect as seeing it on the big screen. A movie theater transports moviegoers to new worlds and lets them break free from their current reality. Movies deserve to be seen on the big screen.

#2 You can’t eat movie theater popcorn or watch previews anywhere else

No one can deny the delicious and savory taste of movie theater popcorn. Whether you like to pour buckets of butter on the popped kernels or you prefer salted seasonings, movie theater popcorn is the best. There’s something about the lingering smell of the popcorn machine that makes theaters enchanting. While you could make some popcorn at home, it just won’t taste the same.

In addition to flavorful popcorn, you won’t find previews anywhere else but a movie theater. Film previews give you a taste of new releases coming out soon. For movie lovers, it helps them scope out more films to see. Streaming services and on-demand films offer little to no previews. With these different previews, you’re watching several mini-movies for the price of 1.

#3 Support film artists and movie theaters

When the pandemic hit, movie theaters everywhere had to shut down while big blockbuster films postponed their releases to a later date. Forbes reported that 2020 brought the lowest box office receipts in 40 years at only $2.2 billion. While films had usually brought almost 1 billion people to the movie theater a year, 2020 saw only 240 million people.

Many independent and local theaters had devastating losses from COVID-19, with some closing for good. These theaters had to get creative, allowing audiences to rent films from an online platform and buy snacks to go from their concession stand.

Now that theaters have reopened, it’s on audiences to show up and give back to filmmakers and movie theaters who worked hard to offer us entertainment during the darkest times

#4 Going to the movies brings people together

There’s something special about being in a movie theater with others. You’re all sharing this 1 experience. Each laugh, clap, cheer, or sniffle connects everyone. Regardless of who you are, a movie theater is a place where you can feel the camaraderie with people all around you.

After living in a lockdown-pandemic world, a community is needed more than ever. Movie theaters have the power to bring us together — one screening at a time.
