Saoirse Ronan wants to film more movies in her native Ireland.
The Oscar-nominated actress was born in New York to Irish parents, and moved to Carlow in County Carlow when she was a toddler.
After the huge success of her role in Joe Wright’s 2007 drama Atonement, Saoirse relocated to the U.S., where she films the bulk of her work.
The 24-year-old, who has just wrapped on the remake of Little Women in Boston, is ready to spend more time in Ireland this year (19).
“I’m doing a film in March and that’s over in the U.K. so I’ll be kind of back and forth,” she said. “I kind of feel like I’m closer to home. I was in America a lot last year and that was great, but I was definitely ready to start working closer to home.
Saoirse added: “So I’d like to do more stuff in Ireland, or even in the UK, if I could.”
The former child star also confessed that she’s stopped getting frustrated at being called a British actress.
“I wouldn’t say I get annoyed – it just seems to be something that happens a lot to Irish people, but I think we all know that I’m not, so that’s the main thing,” Saoirse explained.
She recently reunited with Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig for the big screen version of Louisa Alcott’s classic novel, and will play Jo March alongside Emma Watson, Meryl Streep and Florence Pugh.
Saoirse is currently starring as the titular character in period drama, Mary Queen of Scots, which is in cinemas now.
