Michael B. Jordan is totally, officially about to blow up. The actor has been garnering attention since his role as Wallace in the first season of The Wire, and has gone on to play pivotal roles in Friday Night Lights and the 2012 film Chronicle. But this year has been quite a big deal for the young actor. Jordan took the lead in the acclaimed drama, Fruitvale Station, based on the true story of shooting victim Oscar Grant. He’s young, handsome, and reportedly in talks to take over Will Smith‘s role in the upcoming Independence Day sequel. So we have to ask: is Michael B. Jordan the next Will Smith?
Okay, short answer: no. Will Smith was/is a great guy and we’re sure Jordan would be humbled by the comparison. And while we totally think he could nail the role of Captain Steven Hiller in the highly-anticipated sequel (and we’d love to see him do it), we like knowing that Jordan is a different kind of actor and will surely balance out any big blockbuster movies with smaller films he currently has in the works.
In addition to possibly landing Will Smith’s old role, Jordan will also star alongside Sylvester Stallone in the Rocky spinoff, Creed. But he also just filmed That Awkward Moment with Zac Efron, Imogen Poots, and Miles Teller. He’s also set to star alongside Dianna Agron in another indie flick, Pretenders. He doesn’t need to be the next Will Smith to blow up — he’s the next Michael B. Jordan, and we’re plenty psyched about that.
