Bella Hadid opens up about learning to be ‘comfortable’ in herself

Bella Hadid has taken a long time to finally feel “comfortable” in her own skin.

The model is one of the hottest names in the fashion industry at the moment, having landed campaigns for the likes of Dior Beauty, Bulgari, and TAG Heuer.

However, Bella has now shared that she didn’t always find it easy to express herself, especially due to her battle with chronic Lyme disease, which she was diagnosed with, along with her mother Yolanda and brother Anwar, in 2012.

“I kind of was always searching. So I guess when I felt most beautiful was very recently, in the past two years, when my health was at its best, my love was with me and around me,” she said in an interview with LOVE 20.5 Magazine. “I just felt very comfortable in my own being, instead of looking for the person I should be through others.”

As Bella is now on top of her illness, she is wholeheartedly throwing herself into the modelling business.

She even walked alongside her older sister Gigi Hadid at Prada’s show as part of Milan Fashion Week: Men’s on Sunday (13Jan19) – though she explained that it is the support of her siblings and her singer boyfriend The Weeknd that she cares about the most.

“Growing up I was definitely not the most confident person. Growing up with an older sister meant I had things to look up to, but I could never find myself… I define myself by what’s on the inside. I stay true to my moral compass at all times and look to my family and friends for guidance and support,” the 22-year-old shared.

Even though Bella typically remains tight-lipped about her Starboy hitmaker beau, in a recent chat for Vogue’s 73 Questions video series, she exclaimed that The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, was the “most beautiful” person she knows and that he also makes her “laugh the hardest”.
