“Will you, like, maybe if you want to, be my wife, if that’d be okay?” Michael Cera said as he pulled fair-trade, recycled gold engagement ring out of the pocket of his vintage, skinny Levis.
“Uhm, I guess so. I mean, I have nothing better to do,” Aubrey Plaza shrugged, brushing her blunt cut bangs out of her eyes. “Let’s go to Vegas though. Weddings are boring.”
At least that’s how we pictured it happening when indie darlings Michael Cera and Aubrey Plaza decided to wed to Vegas. We didn’t even know Aubrey Plaza and Michael Cera dated, but it makes sense in a disgustingly cute, this-could-probably-be-some-movie-where-the-Shins-are-on-the-soundtrack way.
In an appearance on “What the Tee?” podcast, the 32-year-old Parks and Recreation actress admitted that she and 28-year-old Cera almost got hitched in 2010. The two actors appeared together in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and fell in love after going on a cross country road trip. Michael Cera and Aubrey Plaza on a cross-country road trip is the plot to an obnoxiously whimsical film we don’t want to see. Actually, isn’t that pretty much what Cera did in Crystal Fairy & The Magical Cactus, but with mescaline instead of Aubrey Plaza?
Plaza told host RuPaul that they “almost got married in Vegas” and they’re very much cut from the same cloth. “I mean, we love each other,” she said. “We’re still really good friends. He’s just a weird little freak and we speak the same language…He’s one of the funniest people I know.”
Weird.
